About us

Teddington Bowling club was founded in 1910, playing bowls on a 2 rink green in Park Road next to the, then, Clarence Hotel (now the Park Hotel). The original green is now under the Cedars housing estate in Station Road.  In 1935 the club relocated to it’s present location in the Grove and was officially opened by the Mayor of Twickenham. Here we had 2 greens, a bowling and a putting green, both looked after by a resident Green keeper.  The bowling green was kept to such a high standard that it was used by Middlesex County Bowling association for County matches. The Teddington Ladies Bowls Club was formed In 1938 and both clubs amalgamated in 2006.  Various venues have been used for our club meetings and included the Royal Oak, the British Legion Club, Craig Hall, and St Peter & Paul Church.  For many years a marquee was used for match day and other event hospitality until, in 1955, the small tea kiosk was extended to create the current Refreshment Pavilion. In the April, the Mayor and Mayoress of Twickenham officially opened the facility.

In 1981 the local Council threatened closure. The club survived but the Putting Green did not.

In recent years we have had the success of winning "Bannerette" matches against Middlesex County, Bowls England and Middlesex County Bowls Association.

For many years we have raised money, through our "Charities Day" matches, for Teddington Memorial Hospital and other local charities.

Our bowling season runs from May to the end of Sept and we have a full programme of matches listed in our bowling programme, which is given to all members at the beginning of the season.

We are a friendly, mixed play club and always ready to welcome spectators and new members.
