Match Report - Mike Whitby Triples on Wednesday 4th October
Another beautiful sunny day and we had 18 players turning out for the final match of the season. Unfortunately, Bob had to pull out at the last minute owing to a hospital appointment – we wish him well. Many thanks to Richard for stepping in to fill his place – we do hope that he will join the club next season.
With 6 Triples we decided to play 3 ends for each match, with the exception of the final match which was 4 ends so that we could finish close to the gate and tea room! Hence a total of 16 ends were played. The teams were drawn just before we started with one player in each team being seeded.
Four of the teams (Team B – Ted, Eileen and Victor, Team C – Roger J, Stuart and Gerrard, Team E – Richard, Andrew and Bernard and Team A – Alfie, Val and Colin) finished on minus scores.
Well done to the Runners Up, Team F – Chris W, Lynn and Vernon, who had an overall score of 21-10 which on another day would have won with a net +11 score. They comfortably won their first 3 matches, 5-0, 5-1 and 6-0, but then lost the last 2, 1-4 and 4-5.
The winners, Team D – Maureen, Derek and Jonathan, won all 5 of their matches with an overall score of 25-6 and hence a net +19 score. This included a 9-1, a 5-1 and two 4-1 match scores.
Many thanks to Maureen and Vernon for the tea and raffle and to players who returned trophies so that I can organise engraving,
